Building & Managing Your Email List

In this day and age of technology and online businesses it is important to have an email list and to keep up with it regularly. I have been finding this out more and more in working my business and building my list and working with clients. We are going to be working through this and I’ll be talking about good ways that you can do this and things that you should definitely steer clear of when building your lists and managing them.

Always Be Truthful

Make sure that those who are signing up to your list know exactly what they are going to get. How many times have you signed up to a list thinking that you were going to get some really great tips, advice, or content only to find out you were getting a lot of ads and being sold to right and left? I can’t stress this point enough that you NEED to be upfront and clear about what your list subscribers will get and if they no longer want that content make sure that you provide the unsubscribe link so that it’s easy and not a hassle to get off your list.

Be Consistent

Making sure that you’re sending out consistent emails and communicating with your list regularly will ensure that those who subscribed don’t feel as though they’re on your list strictly to be marketed to. They want to know that you’re a real person and that you lead a real life, not just that you want to make money. Yes, that’s a part of it and we all know that and somewhere in the back of their minds they know that too, but it’s not something that needs to be an every email subject. Share exciting things that are happening in your life, if you’ve had a new baby share it! If you just bought a new house, share it! Did something fun with the family over spring break share it! People love that type of connection.

I recommend sending out at minimum a weekly email to your list. I have an email that goes out weekly that includes blog posts from the past week. I make a point to always post at least 1 new blog post a week on Tuesdays and my email goes out on Wednesday mornings, that way it always has fresh content. You can add affiliate links to these RSS Feed emails, change them up at least once per month to keep up with what is current and what is not.

Share the Love

It’s okay to share information from other businesses as well. If you have a friend in business and love what they’re doing it’s okay to share that content with your list. Do an interview with your friend and feature it in your newsletter, your friend will love you for the extra exposure and your list will get a fresh look at a different business. Yes, in some way we entrepreneur’s have a sense of competition, but we all have different perspectives and different ways of doing business so why not share the love and go ahead and feature articles from other entrepreneur’s that you love.
